Dominical is little more than a small beach town, and the beach is the reason to go there.
Dominical Beach
Because Dominical is a small town and off the beaten path, it can’t get crowded. Add the fact that it’s a wide, deep beach, and you’ve got a lot of space to relax in (kind of the opposite of southern California).
The beach is care-free, a place to wander and enjoy the warm air and warm water.
If you look closely, there are houses embedded in the forest. Yeah, some people know how to live, don’t they…
A boy and his horse walk casually into the ocean. What, not enough beach for you?
I get it. Nothing feels better than a saltwater bath. Except later, when you rinse off with cool, fresh water. But for now, the two are enjoying themselves.
Speaking of enjoying themselves, there is plenty of space here, and everyone is minding their own business.
Of course, we have to put that to the test, don’t we? Let’s see if people really do mind their own business on the beach in Costa Rica.
The results are in, and are as expected: As I look for pretty shells, no one is paying the least little bit of attention to my pretty shell.
Okay, let’s hit the water, shall we?
Boogie Boarding
The waves here are fairly well-formed and not too powerful.
We don’t surf, sadly, but we do boogie board.
They have surf shops and, where they have surf shops, they rent surf equipment.
There are only a few surf shops in town, but we manage to find a boogie board we can rent. Let’s go have some fun!
We are near the equator, and the sun is HOT on my skin. I don’t have to slowly get used to the water; it feels wonderful to just jump right in.
No, it’s not as cool-looking as surfing, but there is almost no learning curve to boogie boarding. Just jump on your board and ride!
I could do this all day but I will soon be sunburned. There are pluses and minuses to living in paradise, I guess.
As I play in the surf, I notice a couple of guys walking slowly on the beach and stopping in front of me, no matter where the current carries me. I supposed this is why: the surf tends to re-arrange one’s swimming garments just a bit. 🙂
But there is more than just beach and bootie here; there is a little hippy town, too!
Dominical
Dominical consists of a flea market for tourists and a small town for locals.
There are restaurants here, and during the course of our stay, we eat at three of them. The food is okay and people are friendly, but service is glacially slow. Just sayin’. Anyway, I digress.
Early in the day, before most tourists arrive, the vendors are already set up. Like, what time to they get here? Do they sleep here?
Well, these girls do.
So, we walk along, doing the tourist thing, hoping to find something actually crafted in Costa Rica. <Sigh> Still, it’s a beautiful day for a walk.
A few more photographs of the flea market and the town. Yeah, there’s not much to it. You can walk the whole place in about twenty minutes.
Not that we are complaining. Dominical is a very peaceful place. We kinda wish we were staying in an Airbnb here instead of out in the jungle. Oh, well…
We go to the Fuego Brewing company, self-proclaimed as the Best Craft Beer in Costa Rica. Of course, we have to start with a Costa Rican margarita, because we are feeling that island spirit.
Then, it’s time to sample the beer. We can’t say if it is the best craft beer in Costa Rica, but it certainly is a good craft beer in Costa Rica, especially on a hot day (and, pretty much all days are hot in Dominical).
The real reason we picked Fuego Brewing is the view from the second floor. Nice, eh?
Okay, as long as we are enjoying views, I feel my husband should get in the act.
Yes, there are enough good views here to suit everyone’s fancy. 🙂
Sadly, we must leave this quaint village. It’s the perfect little hide-away, and we hope to return someday.
Stay tuned as our adventures in Costa Rica continue!
